Media Wars Tournament Begins
How did I get myself into this? Somehow, I got convinced to participate in a Diplomacy game of Diplomacy content providers. After the game concludes, I will be posting my thoughts of the game and players written in real time, but only made public afterwards, as the game and power assignments are anonymous. You can follow the game on Backstabbr here.
I barely know any of the competitors, and I certainly don’t have enough competence to play a high-level game. I salve my pride by telling myself that these others must be like me, that they really don’t know what they are doing, and that they only provide content because they are bored. Hell, one of the other commentators is Brother Bored, so it might make sense.
But I know that’s all a lie. OK, while I don’t know who is playing which power, here are the participants, and what I know of them:
Brother Bored - World’s Best Gunboat player, and a highly ranked online player. Let’s hope I’m not adjacent to him.
Legendary Tactics – Never heard of him.
DiploStrats (CaptainMeme) - I’ve actually spoken to him. You can listen here. He’s decades younger than me, and almost pulled off a great comeback in Season 4 Finals of Nexus (click here for the discussion). He also dogged me pretty badly for an inept play I made in 1909 in the Season 2 Finals, for which I have given him some stick. I have a good idea of his playing style, which I would put as logical and then wily.
Diplomacy Broadcast Network (Zach Moore). Don’t know him, but I’m sure he’s good if he’s with DBN.
Diplomacy Games (Amby) - I’ve listened to these Aussies a couple of times. Seems like they like to drink. I should be able to bond with them.
The Briefing’s Champion (Jeff) - Never heard of him, but I liked his article on The Briefing, and it seems like we have a lot in common.
